"It must be destroyed forever!" Hamwise yelled, urging Joris Bonson to cast the key into the pit. Joris looked down at the little key and his confused look turned into an evil grin as the power consumed his mind. "Why should I?" Joris whispered like a ghost, "It's my birthday present after all."
Suddenly, out of the shadows leaped Smeagove, grasping at the precious key in a furious rage of jealousy. During the struggle the two dropped the key only for it to be recovered by Hamwise's faithful crow, Mayven. She snatched it up into her claws and dives head first into the pit at the centre of Mount Doom where the key will forever be destroyed. And so Smeagove has become the unlikely hero of our tale. Heroism can come in many forms, even a wretched twisted creature bereft of morality and humanity.
