I'm not that keen on doing portraits of people that I know. But someone else did promise this for me without my consent, and I felt like I couldn't worm out of it. I don't know how to paint someone to look like themselves without trying to copy the photograph exactly. Other people have the talent of painting a portrait that both looks like the person and eases any self-consciousness they might have. Not me. Can't do it.
